A Response to “Reconsidering Scripture”
This is Part Two in responding to the article “Reconsidering the
Scriptures”. There are a lot of links to articles for this
reason. I do not think it is necessary to cover things that are already
written. I would just be saying the same things all over again. Nothing new
would be expressed. Why cover things that have been already covered? I will be
pointing out some consequences to those having a futurist belief. I have tried to make this as simple as
possible. I have not quoted all the
scriptures that answer these questions. I tend to be long at times; I have
tried to take each scripture and use in context.
Romans 8:9-11
9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
· What does it mean in verse 11 for Christ to be raised from the dead (Is it a reference to physical/bodily resurrection)? It is the Spirit of Christ that lives inside of us (spiritual). How can the “physical” body of Jesus live inside of us? Are you saying that you believe that the physical body of Christ lives inside you?

If you “Reconsider Scripture”, Jesus’ body when it was
raised had physical AND spiritual properties. He DID NOT just have a physical body or a spiritual body. Can a
physical body walk through a locked door? Can a spiritual body eat physical
food? How come people that saw Jesus and did not recognized him when they
looked at him? See: The Resurrection
Body Of Christ Tell me, under your belief, if a
person dies with a arm missing, will that person be raised with the same arm
missing. Be careful. Jesus still had the holes in his hands, feet and side
where the spear went through. Under your belief, you are saying that our
physical body would be raised just like Jesus’ body was raised. I am just using your own way of thinking. A
person that is blown apart or eaten by lions, how will their bodies to be
raised? Please be consisted with your own beliefs. How was Jesus’ body when He
went to Heaven? Where does it say in the Bible that His body changed? Don’t
forget that “flesh and blood can not enter into the
· What does it mean for us to be “given life to (our) mortal bodies”? To answer this question you need to go back a couple of verses to verse 9. Put this text into context. It sounds like that you are trying to attached something physical to this verse.

In the NIV, it uses the phrase “sinful nature”. What does “sinful
nature” mean and how is it used in the Bible. Let us look how Paul uses this
phase in context. You are trying to use this text in a “physical” body being
raised for the dead and Paul is NOT using this in a whole different meaning.
According to 8:4, Paul uses this phrase referring to the “Law of Moses)
or the Old Covenant. In the Greek, the meaning of this phase is just that.
Also, in Romans 7:5-6, it uses the same way. What is the “sinful nature”? The
sinful passions aroused by the law, verse 5. What was the penalty of breaking
the law? It was stoning, death to the physical body. Deuteronomy 18:14-20,

Notice how the NIV translates this text. Do you belong to Jesus Christ?
If you have, then you have crucified the “sinful nature”, “the flesh”. Look at
what else that Jesus did. Look at how Paul uses the word “flesh”. He is NOT
referring to our physical flesh, but is referring to the law. One needs to look
at the whole picture.. The above text clearly says that Jesus have crucified
the “flesh” or “sinful nature”. If that still exist, it means it was strong
enough to withstand the crucifixion. If that is the case, then the “flesh” or
the “sinful nature”, the law survived the crucifixion and not Jesus. What does
that say about Jesus (God)? The below texts proves this.

Paul is not talking about a physical resurrection from the grave, but it
is talking about Jesus brought life to THEIR mortal bodies from the penalty of
death (stoning). Today, we DO NOT have a
sinful nature. We have a “divine nature”.
Anyone that tells us that we are of “sinful nature” needs to “Reconsider
Scripture”.

Were you “crucified” literally? Why do you take other scripture
literally and not this one? Jesus’ crucifixion not only nailed the Old Covenant
(the law), but the “sinful nature” (the flesh), all meaning the same thing.

This giving of life is yet future (notice the verb “will”) while the presence
of the Spirit of God is in spoken of in the present tense. It would seem
that this giving of life to the mortal body cannot refer simply to spiritual
life. Is there any relationship between Christ being raised from the dead
(11a) and the giving of life to mortal bodies (11b)?
You are correct that the verb “will” is future tense, but for them the
first century. If you look at scripture, they did not even have salvation or
redemption. Go back and read comments
above. The penalty for breaking the law
was physical death by stoning. By Jesus’
crucifixion and resurrection, he brought life to mortal bodies by taking away
the penalty of breaking the law with was physical death by stoning. Do you preach that we have salvation or
redemptions? If you say, yes, then you contradict your own beliefs and
scripture.
